Medical Administrative Specialist
1050 Hour Program - 7 Credits
The Medical Administrative Specialist Program will prepare students for employment as medical office personnel, unit secretaries, medical office clerks, medical insurance clerks, medical records clerks or will provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in these occupations.
The program offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills expanding the traditional role of the Medical Administrative Specialist.
The content includes:
the use of technology to develop communications skills, higher level thinking, and decision making skills;
medical terminology;
the performance of office procedures specific to the medical environment; transcription of medical documents from machine dictation;
health insurance coding;
the production of quality work in an efficient manner using advanced features of business software applications;
research of job opportunities; and
a 100-hour Internship in a medical office.

Medisoft Appointment Software/Electronic Records

Medical Administrative Specialists are employed in educational institutions, hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices, physical therapy facilities, health-related civil service facilities, health insurance companies, and temporary help agencies.
